What has the League been up to this summer?

Normally League members take a break from league activities and initiatives during the summer months...but not this summer! Here's what we've been up to:

  • A small group of members volunteered at the York County Libraries' Summer Reading Kick Off event at West Manchester Mall.
  • The 2013-2014 Board of Directors met to discuss plans and initiatives for the coming year.
  • The Provisional Membership Committee hosted a "Summer Soiree" at Pippi's Pen Shoppe in downtown York. It was a nice warm evening and many prospective members attended to learn more about the league and to see what this cute little shop is all about!
  • Actives and Sustainers hosted a fun, laid-back family picnic at Wisehaven Pool.
  • The Community Service Committee along with other members participated in our Adopt-A-Block cleanup around the Thrift Shop corner and up Market St.
  • The Thrift Shop hosted its semi-annual Bag Sale last Saturday. This is so we can make room for the Fall season. (Check out the shop when you are downtown for great deals for the Fall! 10 am - 3 pm, Mon.- Sat.)
  • Wilda Alessi, President of the Junior League of York, was name one of Central Penn Business Journal’s 2013 Forty Under 40 for her commitment to business growth, professional excellence and community service. Congrats Wilda!

There are probably a few more things that went on this summer and we thank our Active and Sustainer members for all that they do to make our community even better! We'll report on more initiatives in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer!
